A series of unfortunate events

This book reveiw is on "A series of unfortune events" the 6th one, it is called The Ersatz Elevator and is my favorite one of the series it is by Lemony Snicket, and he tells the story or the story is told from his point of veiw and he also winds himself into the story so it gives you the feeling that soome of it may be true.

I like the way Lemony Snicket describes his writing, specially when the children are push down a elevator shaft, he left two pages coloured in black ink just two show how dark it was., these pages were pg numbers 182 and 183.

The story is about three rich children who's lives are tragicly changed when there parents are killed in a house fire and they are taken in by a relation of so thats what they carer Mr Poe thought. this relation was Count Olaf and he was plotting to steal the forrtune of the orphans and use it for himself, everytime he comes up with new disguises to trick the orphans, but he never has.
In the book prior to this one thats book five the orphans were at a bording school where they thwarted Count Olaf's plans, but unfortunately he was able to escape with there friends who had, had similar experiences with there parents, but they thought there brother who was they triplet had died in the fire to. In this book they orphans try to escape from Count Olaf as well try to rescue there friends from his cluthes. They also come across something called V.F.D that they may or may not find out what it means.

At the end of the books there is a little blurb that tells you about the next book and a very random way in which the Editoris to come across Lemony's latests writings.

I recomended this book and this series for they are highly interesting.

Thieving and sneaking, lies from below.
Is a horror only some will bestow.
Creeping and crawling bringing rumors about.
Spreding and sharing all the sercerts out.

You may know some people like this.
As you know they are not easily missed.
They creep aroud looking for prey.
For someone to pick on during the day.

They find this fun. I find it cruel.
And yet, these beastly people rule.
This is story from the geek side of life.
The buillies and the big making the strife.

One click from danger

One click from danger, is a you tube video of the danger of putting personal information on to the web such as your phone number where you live and where you go to school and your first and last name as well as a photo.

The video was about how you could be tracked down by a Pedophile and how easy it was and that there is always back doors to things so blocks dont always work.

This particuler you tube video tells us how a certain pedophile tracked down young girls from ages 11-15 and it tell us how he approached them and made them feel scared, These girls new that what he was doing was strange, so doing the smart thing in there situation they went to there parents who took no time in to contact the police who started a full scale man hunt to find the pedophile, they found the pedophile in the end but the main point of the clip is that you should never, ever, ever, put personal information on the net because there are always back doors and blocks are just extra security and there will always be a way thourgh them.

An interesting fact that I discover through watching this video is that over 3/4 of the children who had personal information on there Bebo or Myspace acconts, parents DID NOT KNOW about it. It is also strange that the 1/4 of the children parents who knew that there children did have personal infomation on there Bebo or Myspacce acconts didnt get them to change it or take it off.
The reson my parents do not allow me to have a Bebo or a Myspace is because of all the dangers of being hunted down.(only just persuaded my parents to get MSN)

The Lion

I thought it might be time to post another poem and this one I thought was really cool it's by Roald Dahl.

The lion just adores to eat
a lot of red and tender meat
and if you ask the lion what
is much tenderest of the lot?
he will not say a roast of lamb
or curried beef or deviled ham
or crispy pork or corned beef hash
or sausages or mutton mash.
then could it be a big plump hen
he answers not What is it then?
oh lion dear could i not make
you happy with a lovely steak
could i entice you from lair
with rabbit pie or roasted hare
the lion smiled and shook his head
he came up very close and said
the meat that im about to chew
is neither steak or chops its YOU.

Heaps of people have heard this poem before but i enjouyed reading it because it was funny and i felt like you get a rythm going

Journey of carbon

I am Carbon and this is a story of my journey around the world, with the help of my trusty friend the Carbon cycle.

It all started when the plant I was stored in was rather savagely ripped apart by an animal, and in this beast I stayed untiil it died and I ran into my old friends bacteria and fungi, then after there short visit I traveled down and stored myself comfortabley in the ground only to then find myself beung sucked up into a plant, I satyed here until then again the plant I was in was eaten by some other creature, then released into the air when it respired, which means that I was shot up into the air. There was where I floated for a while before being made photosythsis with my old buddy sunlight, so I was safly transported back into a plant until some other savage beast wants to eat it, and then I would have to start the journey again.

Report

I just thought this peom was funny. the writer is unkowen.

According to your school report
You drive the students nut's
and members of the teaching staff
Sincerely hate your guts.

You crept into the science lab
And opened all the cages
So rats were running everywhere
For absolutely ages.

The principal despises you
For blowing up the gym
And pushing in the swimming pool
A girl who couldn't swim.

You broke into the dormitory
And bounced on all the beds
And when the teachers came for you,
Played hopscotch on their heads.

They think you are a crimmal
And shouldn't be allowed.
Congratulations little one
You've made us very proud.

War

This is a fiction story about young girl from England’s involvement in the Second World War. (1939-1945)

This young girl was named Madeleine Finney, but her close relatives and friends called her Maddie.
Maddie lived in the outskirts of London with her mother and father.
Maddie’s mother, Katie was a waitress at there local diner and worked the day shift from nine till five, then she would return home prepare dinner for her family and do the house chores.
Maddie’s father, Jack was a pilot, it was his job to fly low over the crops of farmers to water them and he was sometimes used to spot stray cows that had wondered off at night, he was also a trick pilot and gave tourists rides. Jack would leave at six in the morning and be back around six in the evening.
Maddie worked in London at a barbers shop, ever morning at seven, except on Sundays Maddie would take the families farm truck and drive for around forty-five minutes to get to the barbers (which opened at eight) work there until four then drive home and assist her mother Katie with the house chores.
The first unfortunate event for the Finney family happened on a quite evening rather close to Maddies 18th birthday.
They was a knock on the door and Katie rose and made her way down the hall, when she returned however she was not alone.
With Maddies mother, was a man, he was in a dull green uniform and stood tall and straight. Maddie could tell that this man was involved with war; by the clolour and style of his uniform and the look on her mothers face told her that something wasn't right.
“Maddie go check the chickens are all locked in right we don’t want the foxes to get them” said Maddies mother.
And being the good girl they had raised her to be, she stood up and walk out the door to check on the chickens without a word of disagreement.
When she returned to the house her father had gone to sleep and her mother was doing the dishes.
Maddie went over to help, she didn’t ask any questions about the man in the uniform because she knew that she would get lies or she would just be ignored.
After doing the dishes Maddie went to bed wonder about the night’s events, wondering if something in her family was about to change.
Maddie woke early on the Sunday morning and went out to collect the chicken eggs for breakfast when she return her father was sitting at the table all packed as if he was going on a huge trip and wouldn’t be back for a long time.
When Maddie enter carrying in basket of eggs, he looked up and smiled as if nothing was wrong.
“Maddie” he began.
“Sit down, just listen don’t interrupt me, because this is important and you need to her it. I’m leaving to day and im going to a special facility to fight the Germans, its going to be ok im only going for about a year, and you can write to me from here.”
Maddie was speechless so many things were racing though her mind she was angry with her father and the uniformed officer, she was also scared. What if her father never came back what if the whole country was attacked.
Maddie was brought back from the troubles that were in her head by a knock at the door she stood up to answer it but her father stood up to and carrying his huge bag he left the house with out another word.
It had only taken Maddie 30mins to realise what she had to do. She had to become a nurse and go to war herself and make sure her father was ok, then right there and then she knew that she had to work fast she ran up stairs and packed her bags then she wrote a note to her mother to explain what she had done and why. The only thing she didn’t tell her was where she was going and what she was going to do, because she didn’t want her mother to come looking for her or to try and stop her.
And with that she ran out to the car and started to drive out of the drive way thinking of what in would be like to become a nurse.
Maddie drove into London; she knew that the war building was on the other side of the city, at that there was a good chance she would find out how to become a nurse there.
Maddie arrived at the building parked and quickly walked inside. There was an old man with thick white hair, smoking a cigar, sitting behind the small wooden desk looking though some official looking documents.
Maddie walked up to the man with surprising confidents.
“I would like to become a nurse in the war” Maddie informed clearly.
The old man sighed and mover around a few more papers until he found the one that he wanted.
“O.K then what would your name be then?” replied the old man.
“And how old are you?”
“My name is Madeleine Finney and I am 21yrs old” Maddie lied
“O.K then just carry on through there and you will find the dormitories to the left your door number is 15 and you will be sharing with three other girls the time table for your classes will be on the wall, here is a map of the grounds so you don’t get lost, classes start at 7:00am sharp, you will be ask some more questions later.
“Stunned at how easy that was Maddie slowly walked through the door wondering what her dorm would be like?

When I was 5

When i was five years old, the year ws 1998 , we were living here in Whangaparoa, right next to the school.
The school was called Stanmore Bay Primary, and my teacher was called Mrs Wild.
I was short with brown curly hair, with an evil grin. I usally wore jeans and coloured tops or a dress.
What was really in at the time for the 5 year olds were these toy dolls and toy bears you could sribble all over them with a pen then you put them in the wash and there all clean again.
What i can remeber about my 5th birthday was i was at kindergarten and in was wearing my big hat thay said 5 and i fanited for about 2 seconds because of all of the excitment of the party. We did finger painting and played in my favourite swing.
This was one of the tasks in English today.

I am Crystasl Meth

I thought this poem was very powerful with its wording it made my spine shiver when i finshed it, this was apart of my year eight poem project:

I AM CRYSTAL METH (P)

I destory homes, i tear families apart,
take your children and thats just the start.
I'm more costly then dimonds, more precious than gold.
The sorrow i bring is a sight to behold.

If you need me, remeber! I'm easily found,
I live all around you - in schools and in town.
I live with the rich; I live with the poor.
I live down the street, and maybe next door.

I'm made in a lab, but not like you think.
I can be made under the kitchen sink.
In your childs closet, and even in the woods.
If this scares you to death, that it certanly should.

I have many names, but there's one you know best,
i'm sure you've heard of me, my name is crystal meth.
My power is awsome; try me you'll see,
but if you do you may never break free.

Just try me once and i might let you go,
but try me twice, and i'll own your soul.
When i possess you, you'll steal and you'll lie.
you'll do wat you can just to get high.

The crimes you'll commit for my narcotic charms,
will be worth the peasure you'll feel in your arms. ( your lungs and your nose)
You'll lie to your mother; you'll steal from your dad,
When you see there tears YOU should feel sad.

But you will forget your morals, and how you were rasied.
I'll be your conscience, I'll teach you my ways.
I'll take kids from parents and parents from kids,
I turn people from God, and separate friends.

I'll take everything from you, your looks and your pride,
I'll be with you always-right by your side.
You'll give up everything-your family your home,
Your friends and your money, and then you'll be alone.

I'll take and take, till you have nothing more to give.
When i'm finshed with you, you'll be lucky to live.
If you try me be warned-this is no game.
If given the chance I'll drive you insane.

I'll ravish your boby; I'll control your mind.
I'll own you completely; your soul will be mine
The nightmares I'll give you while lying in bed.
The voices you'll hear, from inside your head.

The sweats, the shakes, and the visions you'll see.
I want you to know, these are all gifts from me.
But then it's to late you'll know in your heart.
That you are mine, and we shall not part.

You'll regret that you tried me they always do.
But you came to me, not i to you.
You knew this would happen, many times you were told.
But you challenged my power, and choose to be bold.

You could have said no, and just walked away.
If you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I'll be your master; you will be my slave
I'll even go with you, when you go to the grave.

Now that you have met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not, It's all up to you.
Ican bring you more misery than words can tell.
Come take my hand, let me lead you to hell.

Science story of the water particle

I am a little water particle. I started my journey when i was evaporated from the sea in which i was collected with my fellow water particles, the sun is what caused me and my friends to rise from the water and soar towards the sky. We were taken high up and taken to rest in a cloud this is called condensation. We stayed in the cloud for a while till it got to full then something humans call predipation, which means it rains and we are forced to plummet towards the ground. We droped in to a large lake where again we where collected, ready to make the trip again, again and again.
This is what we did in science today when we learnt about the water cycle.

Flowers in the Attic

This is the is a book reveiw of the book flowers in the attic.
This is a book writen by Virginia Andrews.
Virginia Andrews lived in portsmouth, Virginia, was born in 1933.
Flowers in the attic was the first novel. It is based on a true story, of four children locked in an attic for nearly four years. Its sequels are petals in the wind and if there be thorns. all of these books have be successful.

This story starts traically as the childrens father is killed in a accident and they are forced to move out of there house. There mother decided to move back with her wealthy parents who had disowed her after her marrige. The children chirs, cathy, carrie and cory are forced to live in a attic while there mother tries to win back the affection of her father whilst keeping the children a secret from every one but her grandmother, gradully there mother forgot about her children.

The story is told from Cathy the second oldest at the age of 12, point of view, it is writen in past tense so it is made like she herself is telling the story: This is the first paragraph of the prologue, on how she felt about hope and a bit of what she felt while she was locked in the attic.

"It is so appropriate to colour hope yellow, like that sun we seldom saw. and as i begin to copy from the old memorandum journals that i kept for so long, a title comes as if inspired. open the window and stand in the sunshine. Yet i hesitatte to name our story that. For i think us more as flowers in the attic. paper flowers, born so brightly coloured, and fading duller through all those long, grim, dreary, nightmarish days when we were held prisoners of hope, and kept captives by greed. but, we were never to colour even one of our paper blossoms yellow."
to me flowers in the attic was a story of change, lies, trust, and betrayal all between one family, the children must hold on to what little hope they have as well as each other.

Blog number 1

This is my first blog as you may have clicked to from the title, in English our job is to create a blog, so here it is.

My name is Hilary and i have plenty of nicknames given to me by my friend Alisha and my dad

these are some of my favourite poems:

Mr Bell
Mr Bell would mown his lawn.
Every single day at dawn.
Though the neighbors begged for peace.
Mr Bell refused to cease.
Finally the neighbors flipped.
Now the lawn remains uncliped.
And the bones of Mr Bell.
Fertilise it rather well.

Freaks
My fathers feet have thirteen toes he thinks its rather fine.
My mothers even happier for she has twenty-nine.
My sister has a hundred toes all growing in a line.
While uncle paul has none at all just lobster claws like mine.
Both of these were by Doug Macleod
